Reasons to Join...
Quality and diversity of the membership.
The membership reflects a broad cross-section of business and professional men and women from the community. Club guidelines suggest members should be one of the key policymakers in their organization. The club also emphasizes the community leadership and involvement of its members. The Club is commonly referred to as "Downtown Rotary" because it meets in downtown Cedar Rapids, but its members are drawn from the greater metropolitan area.
Opportunity to Network.
We meet every Monday at noon at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel in Downtown Cedar Rapids with a broad representation of community leaders.
Quality and Educational Value of program.
Even the most informed of our members learn about new businesses and organizations through our programs.
Credentials of our speaker.
Speakers range from political and governmental leaders, presidents of businesses, directors of charitable organizations, school administrators, coaches, inventors, community leaders and visionaries.
Congeniality.
Downtown Rotary is a weekly opportunity to have a relaxed lunch every Monday with Cedar Rapids' most influential citizens. Good humor is a weekly staple.
Rich history and established traditions.
Rotary was only nine years old when it came to Cedar Rapids in 1914. Rotary is the world's oldest and most prestigious service club. The Rotary Club of Cedar Rapids is Iowa's fourth oldest Rotary club and the largest. with a tradition of high ethical standards, the club is highly respected in the Cedar Rapids Community.
Choice of membership involvement level.
Rotary membership involves meeting Rotary International's 60% attendance requirement (make-ups can be accomplished at any other Rotary club). However, in Downtown Rotary, meeting attendance is the only declared requirement. The extent to which a member withes to become involved as a volunteer in club projects and activities is a matter of personal choice.
Strong commitment to education and children.
The club currently meets this commitment through strong support for Cedar Rapids' Metro Alternative High School, elementary school playground equipment programs (Gearing Up for Kids), other community programs and participation in international projects through the Rotary International movement.
Stability of membership.
The overall size of the club has been relatively stable over the past fifteen years (average of 335 Active members). The club has always operated from a position of financial strength.
