gLOBAL iMPACT
Rotary works with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and national governments toward our top goal of eradicating polio worldwide. We also focus our time, energy and efforts on service projects encompassing:
- Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
- Disease prevention and treatment
- Water and sanitation
- Maternal and child health
- Basic education and literacy

Liberian Food Farming Project
Liberia has an 80% unemployment rate and imports 80% of its main staple, rice, from China. The Liberian Food Farming Project to which The Rotary Club of Cedar Rapids has made an initial contribution of $10 thousand will create the means for a people to feed themselves while creating income for their families and the community. It will address Health & Hunger, Literacy and Clean Water, which are all Rotary goals.
Clean Water Project for Same, Tanzania
Tanzania (on Africa's east coast) has a population of approximately 46 million people - 36& of which live below the poverty level. It is the home of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa. Same, Tanzania has approximately 26 thousand residents and is growing. It has an inadequate water supply. Water must be brought in by trucks and is very expensive. Residents pick up water with push carts. The cost of the well is approximately $37 thousand. The Rotary Club of Cedar Rapids joined the First Lutheran Church who first identified and funded the project to complete the well.
